Shen Changyu Holds Bilateral Talks with Heads of IP Agencies from Multiple Countries and Regions and Attends BRICS IP Heads Meeting
Geneva, Switzerland, July 7-9 (Local Time) – During the series of meetings at the 66th Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), held separate bilateral talks with the heads of intellectual property (IP) agencies from Singapore, Hungary, Spain, France, Denmark, Australia, Morocco, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) in Geneva, Switzerland. He also participated in the Ministerial Informal Policy Dialogue hosted by WIPO and attended the BRICS Intellectual Property Heads Meeting.
During the bilateral talks, Commissioner Shen Changyu engaged in in-depth discussions with the various parties on issues of mutual interest, reaching a series of important consensuses. Shen Changyu pointed out that the Chinese government places high importance on intellectual property work, focusing on building an efficient comprehensive intellectual property management system. Over the past year, China has made significant new progress in various aspects including IP legal framework development, creation, examination, utilization, protection, services, and international cooperation, continuously optimizing the innovation and creation environment. He expressed China's willingness to work hand-in-hand with all parties in the future to strengthen exchanges and provide better services for users worldwide. The counterparts expressed their desire to further deepen IP cooperation with China, engaging in in-depth exchanges in areas such as IP talent cultivation, public services, pledge financing, trademark and geographical indication protection, and the application of artificial intelligence in examination work, to jointly foster innovation-driven development. During the talks, Shen Changyu signed bilateral Memorandums of Cooperation (MoCs) with the heads of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and OAPI respectively, and signed a patent prosecution highway (PPH) memorandum of cooperation with the Director General of the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).
On July 7, WIPO hosted a Ministerial Informal Policy Dialogue themed "Shaping the Future of Innovation." Shen Changyu attended the meeting and delivered a speech, introducing CNIPA's practical experience in actively exploring IP protection rules related to artificial intelligence and applying AI tools to enhance the efficiency of IP management. His remarks were well received by the participants.
On July 8, Shen Changyu attended the BRICS Intellectual Property Heads Meeting. He noted that over the past two years, BRICS IP cooperation has welcomed five new members, significantly expanding its circle of friends and enhancing its influence. He expressed hope that the BRICS IP offices would maintain the positive momentum of cooperation to achieve more fruitful results, better benefiting IP users. During the meeting, the BRICS parties held in-depth discussions on the latest progress of cooperative projects and the next BRICS IP Heads Meeting, forming important consensuses.
